The Dachshund, or the "Wiener Dog", is an indefinite symbol of the dog community. These short yet long dogs have a big-dog personality that have captivated the hearts of dog lovers around the world. There are six different variations of Dachshunds that diversify in height, weight, and coat. These varieties are Long-Haired, Smooth-Haired, and Wire-Haired and each can be standard or miniature sized. Dachshunds were bred in Germany to be low to the ground for the purpose of hunting badgers. In the early stages of their breeding, Dachshunds suffered back problems like disc herniation. Nowadays, Dachshund breeders are more careful with how they breed their dogs and it is common for them to give a health guarantee in case their puppies face genetic back problems. Dachshunds love their exercise but it is not necessary for their enrichment. They have loud barks that can easily convince an intruder that a larger dog is inside. Dachshunds are amazing household dogs with an everlasting attachment to their owners.
