Dogs, like humans, come in all shapes and sizes. They are hundreds of variations of dogs that have been recognized since the first dogs that associated with humans a thousand years ago. These variations are classified as breeds. Humans chose to bred and raised dogs based on their need for a dog. Some dogs became companions while others became hunting dogs. Humans then decided to selectively breed their dogs to capitalize on traits that they liked about the dog. Today, we have a name for almost every breed and have divided the dogs into seven groups - Hound, Sporting, Terriers, Utility, Working, Toy, and Mixed. Below is a small summary of each group.
